Paraphrasing the title of Robin Robertson’s beautiful book “The Long Take”, of course – but I’m also thinking of the pace at which I’m posting new stuff on here. It’s been a year since the last time.
I did, however, not spend this year studying the finer points of finger cymbal technique at some ashram on the banks of the Ganges, but rather working slowly but relatively steadily – writing and recording as I go along – on my next album, tentatively called “Unspoken”. I’m hoping for a 2020 release. “In the Dust” was recorded at Straydog Studios in Stockholm in August and is produced by me and Jens Back, who also is the engineer – and plays the accordion part!
‘Til next time…

Back to work on the next solo A.P. Meister release. Here’s another work in progress…
44
When the lion lies down
Next to the sleeping lamb
and if the devil could die
Just slip right out of time
All those years on your own
Now you’re here, then you’re gone
Your life reads like a sad song
You just turned 44
Guess something was wrong
Guess you knew all along
That ghost-riders haunt
Our every waking hour
Can’t raise poor Lazarus
Can’t shake off this dream
Life can feel like a shallow grave
You just made 44
Still the trees did sing in your every childhood dream
And the shadows and lies just wash from your eyes
There’s forbidden fruit, there’s poison in the well
You’ll see beginnings and things that end
Sweet gilded cage
God damn that golden age
Those were the days, you say
What became of you and me?
A change in the weather and a change of plans
Fickle fortunes and changes of heart
You’re but an actor, now play your part
Like you’ve seen it all at 44

Acoustic this time…
This one just might end up on the next album.
Been writing and recording some new songs for the next album… Here’s a rough mix of one.
Any Given Day
Show me something I’ve never seen
some stranger kind of dream
tell me all is not what it seems
and people don’t say just what they mean
On any given day
as the dawn slips away
Make me stop right in my tracks
with the cool wind in my back
And I’ll leave no stone unturned
And no song unheard
On any given day
as the dawn slips away
Might be late in a losing game
might be that I played my hand all in vain
But still you’re my sweetest pain
You’re the soil, and you’re the rain
On any given day
as the dawn slips away

Stumbled upon this almost forgotten little instrumental called Sea. Originally recorded as a kind of afterthought to Above & Below, but it was never included on the album.
A couple of photos from the gig at S:ta Clara, August 18th, 2014
And a video…
How The Story Goes
Moon crying silver, sun crying gold
Moon crying silver, sun crying gold
And I think I know how the story goes
Everybody knows how it goes
Hush little bluebird
You sing like a black crow
Hush little bluebird
You sing like a black crow
And I think I know…
Alone and forsaken by gods and by men
Alone and forsaken by gods and by men
And I think I know…
Demons and Buddhas
Snake eyes and the queen of hearts
Demons and Buddhas
Snake eyes and the queen of hearts
And I think I know…
